Instructions

  1. Measurements
    1. Circumference of beam. This measurement to be taken 4 cm, above the coronet on each beam.
    2. Overall spread. This measurement to be taken across the greatest spread, from the tip of one tine to tip of corresponding tine on other beam.
    3. Length of beam. This measurement to be taken along the outer curve of the antler, from the tip of the longer upper tine to the tip of the longest lower tine.
    4. Palmated
      1. Palmated antlers. The palmated area is measured along the outer edge at the widest place across the palm (but excluding any tines), on a line running as parallel as possible to the axis of the beam.
      2. Non-palmated antlers. In antlers that have no palmation, the circumference of the tines, measured exactly at middistance of their length, are taken. Not more than 5 of the longest tines on each beam are to be taken into consideration.
    5. Average length of all tines
      1. Palmated antlers. If the average length of all tines amounts to 5 cms or more, one point is added for each com up to a maximum number of 15 points.
      2. Non-palmated antlers. For each cm of the average length of all tines, one point will be awarded.
    6. Numbers of tines
      1. Palmated antlers. For antlers with ten tines or fewer, no points will be awarded. For each tine above ten, one point will be given.
      2. Non-palmated antlers. For each tine up to a maximum of 5 tines per beam, one point will be awarded. For tines in excess of this number, no points will be given.
  2. Penalty Points: For a considerable difference in the length of the tines, 0 to 5 points can be deducted. For asymmetry of one palm of beam in comparison to the other, 0 to 3 points can be deducted.
