Instrucciones

  1. Measurements
    1. Length of beams (antlers): This measurement is taken from the lower edge of the coronet to the highest point of indentation of palm – not to the highest tine or point of palm. Palmated spellers on the palm are only considered for length measurement if their greatest width measures at least of the greatest width of the palm.
    2. Length of brow tine: This measurement is taken from the upper edge of the coronet to the extremity of the tine.
    3. Length of palm. This measurement is taken along the outside curve of the antler from the place where it commences to broaden out, to the highest point of indentation of palm.
    4. Width of palm. This is taken by measuring the circumference of the palm at the broadest place where an indentation appears on the posterior edge. This circumference measurement has to be divided by two in order to get the width.
    5. Circumference of coronet.
    6. Lower and upper beam circumference: These measurements are taken at the thinnest place between the brow tine and the tray tine, and between tray tine and commencement of palm respectively.
    7. Lower and upper beam circumference: These measurements are taken at the thinnest place between the brow tine and the tray tine, and between tray tine and commencement of palm respectively.
    8. Weight. The dry Weight of the antlers is taken to the nearest 10 grammes, and must be taken at least three months after the animal has been killed. If weighed with full upper jaw, but without lower jaw, 0.25 kg will be deducted from the weight. If only the upper dental plate has been removed, then 0.1 kg will be deducted from the weight (see sketch).

  2. Beauty and Penalty Points
    1. Beauty Points
      1. Colour:

Pale yellow or artificially coloured 0 point
Grey or medium brown 1 point
        Brown to black 2 points

      2. Spellers on Palm:
Only spellers which measure 2 cm or more in length are considered and points will be awarded as follows:
        Points
        One side Both sides
Short, thin and few spellers on palm 0 0
Spellers along one-third of palm edge 1 2
Spellers along two-thirds of palm edge 2 4
Spellers distributed along the whole length of the posterior edge of palm, including tine at base of palm 3 6
      3. Mass, Formation, Regularity: Of the five points, up to three will be awarded for mass, and up to two can be awarded for good shape and regularity.
    2. Penalty Points
      1. Penalty point deductions for insufficient span:

Span les than 85% of average length of beam ---- 1 point
Span les than 80% of average length of beam ---- 2 points
Span les than 75% of average length of beam ---- 3 points
Span les than 70% of average length of beam ---- 4 points
Span les than 65% of average length of beam ---- 5 points
Span les than 60% of average length of beam ---- 6 points

      2. Defective palms:
        Point deductions Points
        One side Both sides
Swollen, diamond or triangular shaped palm 1-3 2-6
        Bifurcated palm 2-4 4-8
        Jagged palm 3-5 6-10
        Spike, or deagger-shaped palm 4-5 8-10
      3. Defective palm edge: Smooth, worn or porous edge to palm. 0-2 points can be deducted.
      4. Irregularities: 0 to 6 points can be deducted for antlers that are irregularly placed on the pedicles, or show differences between the length of the beam, brows or trays.
