Instructions

Supplementary Data

A.Number of tines on each antler: To be counted a tine, a projection must be at least 2,0 cm in length and its length must exceed the length of its base.

B.Tip to tip measurement: Measure distance between uppermost tips of main beams.

C.Greatest spread: Measured at widest spread of antlers.

  1. Score Data
    1. Inside span: Measured at widest distance between the normal second and third tines on the main beam. If the latter tine is missing, the measurement is taken at the widest inside span, mid-distance between the normal 2nd, tine and tip of the antler. Any span measurement in excess of the length of the longer antler will be entered in column 4.
    2. Total length of all abnormal tines placed between brow (4) and third tine (6): This figure is entered in column 4 – Difference. Although 8 tines (4 + 4) is the usual full complement of tines on a Sika stag, additional tines are in order if they form distinct tines in the “crown” area. Tines or small jags located between brow and third tine must be considered abnormal. These include any tines erupting from the posterior (back) side of beam. Every individual tine must be measured as at 6.
    3. Length of main beam: Follow outside curve from lower edge of coronet to tip.
    4. Length of brow tine: Measure from upper edge of coronet along the lower edge of brow tine to its extremity. If the brow sprouts from main beam 5 cm or more above coronet, brow length will be taken from point of eruption.
    5. Length of second (middle) tine: Measure along the outer edge of the tine of each antler from the spot where it starts to emerge from the main beam.
    6. Length of third (inner) tine: Measure along the outer edge of the tine of each antler from the spot where it starts to emerge from the main beam.
    7. Lengths of first (7.), second (8.) and third (9.) extra crown tines (if present): Measure exactly as for inner top tine (6.).
    8. Lengths of first (7.), second (8.) and third (9.) extra crown tines (if present): Measure exactly as for inner top tine (6.).
    9. Lengths of first (7.), second (8.) and third (9.) extra crown tines (if present): Measure exactly as for inner top tine (6.).
    10. Circumference of lower beam: Measure circumference of main beam at thinnest place between brow (4.) and middle tine (5.).
    11. Circumference of upper beam: Measure circumference of main beam at thinnest place between middle tine (5.) and upper fork tine (6.) – if present. If not, then at half distance between middle tine (5.) and tip of antler.
